Rabós de l’Empordà is a municipality located in the northern part of the Alt Empordà region, within the Albera Mountain Range, a mountainous area situated between the plains of the Empordà and Rosselló. The most important heritage site in the municipality is the Monastery of Sant Quirze de Colera (10th century), located inside the Albera Natural Area of National Interest.
The monastery is a Benedictine abbey made up of the Basilica of Sant Quirce, several monastic buildings arranged around the cloister courtyard, a defensive tower, and remains of part of a wall, the Church of Santa María, and what remains of the old hospital. The complex is five kilometers from the urban center of Rabós, and there are routes connecting the monastery with the town itself and other places of interest in the area, such as Requesens, Espolla, or some old farmhouses.
Like other towns in the area, Rabós still shows traces of its megalithic past. There are dolmens and a menhir called Mas Roqué, known as the pedra dreta (upright stone), which stands 3.6 meters tall.
In the town center, the parish church of Sant Julià de Rabós (14th century), built in Romanesque style, is notable.
If you prefer beaches, you’ll find wonderful coves in Llançà just 20 minutes away. Port de la Selva and Cadaqués are also must-visit places without a doubt.
